Under French control, Haitians were denied pumpkins, a delicacy reserved for their masters. On January 1, 1804, Haitians gained independence and celebrated with Soup Joumou, cooked by Emperor Jean Jacques Dessalines' wife and offered to former slaves as a victory symbol. Haiti became the first black republic and the first Western Hemisphere country to abolish slavery. Today, Haitian families worldwide enjoy Soup Joumou every January 1st to honor their history and freedom.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eLarge prints will be shipped rolled up in a protective covering and placed inside a sturdy shipping tube.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"BwrightArt","offers":[{"title":"8in x 10in print on matte paper","offer_id":45654141075479,"sku":null,"price":25.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"11in x 14in-print on matte paper","offer_id":45654141108247,"sku":null,"price":45.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"16in x 20in -print on matte paper","offer_id":45654141141015,"sku":null,"price":65.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"20in x 24in -canvas print","offer_id":45654141173783,"sku":null,"price":256.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"24in x 30in-canvas print","offer_id":45654141206551,"sku":null,"price":358.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"30in x 40in-canvas print","offer_id":45654141239319,"sku":null,"price":440.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0567\/5011\/2791\/products\/Pumpkins-scaled.jpg?v=1646662523","url":"https:\/\/www.bwrightart.com\/products\/story-of-soupe-joumou-freedom-soup-original-painting-copy","provider":"BwrightArt","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
